Who we are

Hi! We are Brad and Melanie. We met at church, started seeing each other in April of 2002, and were married in September of that same year. Prior to meeting, Melanie thought she liked the beach, but she didn’t understand what a true beach day entailed until she met Brad. Their second date was at the beach, where Brad shared his love of surfing and attempted to teach her how to surf.

Brad has been surfing since he was a teenager, and the love of the water is in his blood. In his early years, Brad worked as an electrician, and one Saturday they had mandatory overtime while the surf was perfect. As soon as they were released, Brad and his two friends headed down to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. On the way there, Mike started talking about how he was supposed to spend the day with his girlfriend, and after every questioning of his decisions, he ended it with, “But she wants me to be happy.” This continued throughout the day, until, as they were heading home, the full story emerged: It was her birthday, and he was supposed to be with her. That evening, she went to see him and he learned that, in fact, she did NOT want him to be happy.

Since then, Brad and his surfing buddies have used the phrase “She wants me to be happy” whenever they want to go surfing and there might be something else more pressing on the calendar. Sometimes their wives do indeed want them to be happy, and sometimes they don’t… and that is how the idea for our business was born.

When Brad isn’t surfing, you can find him doing projects around the house, working on the boat, or dreaming of more adventures for him and Melanie.

Melanie loves being at the beach, on the boat, in the kitchen cooking and baking, or—as sappy as it sounds—anywhere with Brad.
